THE ULTIMATE BUSINESS AUDIT CHECKLIST FOR ENTREPRENEURS
Before you can fix what's broken, you need to see it clearly. Here is exactly how we diagnose a business.
Every engagement at Optimized starts the same way: not with tactics, not with a campaign brief, not with a new logo — but with a ruthless, clear-eyed business audit. The audit is how we find what is actually true about a business, as opposed to what the founder hopes, fears, or assumes.
This is the same checklist we use internally when we sit with a new client. We are sharing it because we believe that even doing this exercise on your own will shift the way you see your business.
1. REVENUE ARCHITECTURE
Where does revenue actually come from? Not the vanity answer — the real one. Pull the data.
- What are your top 3 revenue sources by percentage?
- What is the customer lifetime value (CLV) for each segment?
- What is your cost of acquisition (CAC) per channel?
- Is your CLV:CAC ratio above 3:1? If not, you're bleeding money to acquire customers who don't stay.
- Which products or services have the highest margin — and which ones are you spending the most energy on? (These are rarely the same.)
Most entrepreneurs we audit discover that 70%+ of their energy goes into a product that generates less than 30% of their profit. This single insight changes everything.
2. SALES PROCESS & PIPELINE
A business without a defined sales process is running on luck. Luck doesn't scale.
- Can you describe your sales pipeline in 5 stages or fewer?
- What is your conversion rate at each stage?
- Where do most prospects drop off — and why?
- Do you have a CRM system tracking every lead, or are deals living in WhatsApp and memory?
- What is your average sales cycle length? Is it getting longer or shorter?
If you cannot answer these questions with data, you don't have a sales process. You have a hope process. Our Strategy & Consultation service exists precisely to fix this.
3. MARKETING EFFECTIVENESS
- For every dollar/dinar you spend on marketing, how many dollars come back? (ROAS)
- Which channels actually drive paying customers — not just followers?
- Are you measuring vanity metrics (likes, reach) or value metrics (leads, revenue)?
- Is your messaging specific to your ideal client, or generic enough to apply to any business?
- When was the last time you killed a campaign that wasn't working?
4. OPERATIONAL WASTE
This is the silent killer. Waste hides in plain sight because it feels like "normal work."
- How many hours per week does your team spend on tasks that could be automated?
- How many software tools are you paying for that nobody uses daily?
- Are customer complaints being tracked, categorized, and used to improve?
- Do you have documented processes, or does everything depend on one person's knowledge?
5. THE ENTREPRENEUR
This is the pillar most consultants ignore. We don't.
- Are you making decisions from data or from emotion?
- When was the last time you invested in your own thinking frameworks — not just tools?
- Do you have an advisory circle, or are you making every call alone?
- What is the one decision you've been avoiding? (That's usually the most important one.)
Read our books and subscribe to the Insight newsletter — they exist to upgrade the decision-maker, not just the dashboard.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE AUDIT
An audit is not a deliverable — it's a starting point. From the diagnosis, we build a customized marketing and conversion strategy specific to your constraints and goals. Then we implement it alongside your team and accompany your business long-term.
That is what separates us from consultants who hand you a PDF and disappear. We are the best in the market at turning strategy into reality.
Start with a business audit. Big picture before tactics.
